First I’m a bit confused about qualifies as “organic matter” at a certain point everything will be reduced back down into basic elements, but I’m curious how deep one would have to go in the soil to get to a point where there was very little or no organic matter.

This doesn’t necessarily have to be organic matter viable for plant growth just matter that is organic in general.
