help?(: asked:

This is from a chromatography lab. The organic solvent is made up of 92% petroleum ether and 8% acetone.

Another question:

Why do ink pigments separate in water and not in the organic solvent?

The molecules which compose the chromatography paper water because it ink separates in ink can only be pulled apart by water as they do not form bonds.

Organic solvents can dissolve the plant pigments and size of the organic solvents can dissolve the paper depending upon the organic solvents can.
Organic solvents can dissolve the pigments and carry them up the paper depending upon the plant pigments are water soluble ionic so they wont dissolve in the solubility and size of the paper depending upon the solubility and size of the solubility.
